CHICAGO (March 23, 2022) – Chicago Fire FC today announced that the Club has signed midfielder Matteo Kidd to an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract, pending league and U.S. Soccer Federation approval. His contract with Chicago Fire FC II will run through the 2022 season, with a Club option for 2023. Financial terms were not disclosed.
“Matteo was brought to our attention by first team assistant coach and former Fire player, C.J. Brown,” said Chicago Fire FC Technical Director Sebastian Pelzer. “We are excited about what he will bring to our MLS NEXT Pro team and looking forward to seeing him continue to develop as a player.”
Kidd, 24, most recently played under current Chicago Fire assistant coach C.J. Brown at Chicago House AC in the National Independent Soccer League (NISA) in 2021. While with House, Kidd earned 18 appearances (13 starts) in the team’s inaugural season. Prior to his time in Chicago, Kidd played 48 games (42 starts) for St. Louis University, earning Second-team All-Conference honors in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
“Matteo’s quality will raise the standard and the environment within our team,” said Chicago Fire FC II head coach Ludovic Taillandier. “His energy and versatility make him a marshal in the midfield, able to break up plays while also helping us maintain possession. His experience will help us tremendously.”
