The Chicago Fire Academy Under-16 squad continued its global football education with a trip to the Bell Sport Cup International Tournament in Poland last week, competing against teams from seven different countries.

The side returned to Europe after winning the event in 2018 and this year lined up against under-16 opponents from Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Belgium, Finland and Holland.

Progressing all the way to the shield final, the Fire U-16s fell 3-2 on penalty kicks to Slask Wroclaw (Poland) to finish the tournament with a record of 4-3-1. The team scored eight goals and conceded five, while goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina tallied an impressive three clean sheets. Wyatt Borso led the attack with two goals and two assists.

As part of the P.A.S.S. Program, the team wrapped up its trip overseas by visiting Auschwitz. The side's World War II and Holocaust education began back in Chicago with a trip to the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Skokie.
