CHICAGO (Feb. 14, 2020) – The Chicago Fire FC Academy U-15 and U-17 teams are set to play in the Generation adidas Cup Regional Event at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif., on Feb. 14-17. The Generation adidas Cup, is an elite youth tournament consisting of 40 clubs, from 11 different countries that showcases the talents of future stars in Major League Soccer.
The Fire U-17 Academy will be kicking off first, with its first game taking place on Friday, Feb. 14, at 5:30 p.m. CT against the San Jose Earthquakes. The U-15 Academy will also play San Jose, with kickoff set for 8:00 p.m. CT later that night.
The U-17 Academy team will take the field the next day against Sporting Kansas City at 3:00 p.m. CT, and the U-15 Academy will follow at 5:30 p.m. CT, also against Sporting Kansas City.
Both the Academy U-15 and U-17 teams will conclude play on Saturday against Minnesota United. The U-17’s will be playing at 11:00 a.m. CT and the U-15’s will conclude their weekend with a game at 1:00 p.m. CT.
The 25 participating MLS clubs compete in Generation adidas Cup qualifiers to determine their opponents in April – beginning in October and culminating in final qualifiers from Feb. 14-17 in Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. The top two MLS clubs in each U-17 group will advance to face top international clubs in Division 1 play, while third and fourth place teams will play Liga MX opponents in Division 2, and the remaining clubs will play in Division 3. For the U-15 qualifiers, only the top MLS club in each group will advance to participate in the MLS-Liga MX International Challenge in Frisco.
