With the team's third-straight clean sheet behind them coming out of Saturday's 2-0 win at D.C. United, Chicago Fire defender Wyatt Omsberg and goalkeeper Gaga Slonina have been included in the MLS Team of the Week following their performances in Week 3.
Omsberg - who was named to the team's first XI - started and played 90 minutes on Saturday for the third-straight match in central defense alongside captain Rafael Czichos. Against D.C., Omsberg accounted for 21 defensive actions (clearance, blocks, interceptions, and recoveries) according to Opta, and helped push the team's current run without conceding a goal to 334 minutes.
"We've done a really good job so far, but it’s just the start, it's three games," Omsberg told media following the match. "We have to keep this going and we have to keep this up defensively. Goals are going to come, we know that but as long as we stay strong defensively, we'll have a chance to win every game.”
Slonina was named to the Team of the Week bench for the second time in three games, following his inclusion in the Week 1 TOTW after the Fire's opening day 0-0 draw at Inter Miami CF. Slonina made four saves against D.C., and earned his seventh career clean sheet in what was just his 14th career match played.
Up next, the Fire will look to keep the momentum going when they return home this Saturday to welcome Sporting Kansas City for a 5 p.m. CT kickoff at Soldier Field.
