Chicago Fire FC have officially added another high-profile signing to their roster ahead of the 2022 MLS regular season, this time in the form of Jairo Torres from Liga MX side Atlas.
Torres, whose acquisition was announced on Saturday, joins the Fire as Young Designated Player on head coach Ezra Hendrickson's roster. The 21-year-old had been among the most productive young players in Liga MX prior to his departure, and will now look to take the next step in his career along the lakefront at Soldier Field when he arrives on May 1.

Since debuting as a 16-year-old in November of 2016, Torres has made 108 appearances for Atlas across Liga MX Apertura, Clausura, and Copa MX play.

As a winger, Torres has picked up 16 career goals + assists in all competitions for Atlas so far in his young career. He has appeared four times and scored once in Atlas' current Clausura campaign.

Torres leaves Atlas with one domestic championship title to his name after he helped lead the club to the 2021 Liga MX Apertura Championship in December. The championship was the club’s first in over 70 years, and came in a penalty kick win over Club Léon. Torres scored one goal and added three assists over 17 appearances in the team’s run to the final.

After scoring two goals and adding three assists for Atlas in Clausura and Copa MX play in the Summer of 2019, Torres was rewarded with his senior Mexico Men’s National Team debut as a 19-year-old. The appearance came in a 2-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago that October.

Prior to his senior national team debut, Torres was a standout for Mexico’s youth national team sides.
At the 2017 Concacaf Under-17 Championship, Torres was named the tournament’s Golden Ball winner and was additionally included in the tournament Best XI. Torres was among Mexico’s scorers as they defeated the United States in penalty kicks to win the championship.
Torres also helped Mexico to a third-place finish in the 2019 Toulon Tournament (Tournoi Maurice Revello), held annually in France for under-23 youth national teams.
