Chicago Fire PDL Hands Des Moines Menace First Loss of Season With 1-0 Win

Toyota Park

CHICAGO(June 28, 2016) – The Chicago Fire PDL defeated the Des Moines Menace, 1-0, on Tuesday morning as the Men In Red improved to 5-0-0 at Toyota Park this season.

The Fire looked for a measure of revenge against the Menace, who got the best of them in an early season 2-1 loss in Iowa on May 21. After an opening half of missed chances and even possession, the game was seemingly going scoreless into halftime until Mark Segbers found himself running onto a long ball in the Des Moines box where he was able to draw the penalty when he was pushed off of the ball. Andrew Gutman stepped up, pushing the ball right, he sent the Menace keeper the wrong way and gave Chicago the lead at half.

The second half started the same with both teams continuing to play even and high up the field. Chicago held on for a very important three points to keep pace with the Des Moines Menace at the top of the table.

On Tuesday, July 5, the team will welcome the Thunder Bay Chill to begin the teams' doubleheader for the week.
