Chicago Fire FC Acquire Goalkeeper Spencer Richey

Welcome Spencer Richey 1920x1080

CHICAGO (Dec. 20, 2021) – Chicago Fire FC today announced that the Club has acquired goalkeeper Spencer Richey via Free Agency. Richey, 29, is under contract with the Fire through 2023 with a Club option for the 2024 season.

“We’re very pleased to add Spencer to our roster heading into 2022,” said Sporting Director Georg Heitz. “With nearly a decade of professional experience, Spencer will not only be a great mentor for Chris Brady and Gaga Slonina but will also provide competition and depth at the goalkeeper position.”

A native of Seattle, Wash., Richey originally began his professional career with Vancouver Whitecaps FC in 2015, making 46 USL Championship appearances for Whitecaps FC II. Outside of MLS play, he appeared in four Canadian Championship matches and two Concacaf Champions League fixtures with Vancouver.

After spending three seasons with Whitecaps FC, he joined FC Cincinnati in 2018 for its final season in USL, appearing in 16 games. He remained with Cincinnati for its first two MLS seasons, starting 28 of 29 appearances.
