CHICAGO (Feb. 7, 2020) – Coming off Teamship Workshops that emphasized life skills and teamwork, the Chicago Fire Academy had a busy weekend, with each of the five age groups having matchups against Academy League rivals, Major League Soccer opponents in league play, college showcases, and friendlies.
The Chicago Fire Academy U-13 and U-14 teams faced rival Campton United this past week in league matchups. On Saturday, February 1, the U-13’s defeated Campton United, 13-0. Highlighting the rout were Makhi Francis and Marius Aiyenero with a combined seven goals in the match. Also scoring for the Fire Academy were Leo Orejarena, Nick Mitrega, and Jayden Quezada, who each scored two apiece to complete the blowout.
Similarly to the U-13 squad, the U-14’s dominated Campton United SC with a score of, 13-0. Leading the way was Michael Ramirez, who had a four-goal performance in the match for the Fire Academy. Aaron Ortiz, Gustavo Herrera, and Jonathan Almaguer scored two of their own and Aiden Frick, Bryan Vargas, and Kamden Held contributed with tallies to defeat their rival in league play.
The U-15 and the U-17 teams played in friendlies against MLS opposition Minnesota United FC Academy. The U-15’s tied in their friendly with a final score of 2-2. Scoring for the U-15’s were Carlos Nevarez and Roman Eisa, with Sergio Oregel assisting on Eisa’s tally.
The U-17 Academy found success over MUFC as they won the friendly matchup, 6-2. Josh Torres and Luka Bezerra scored twice, and Wyatt Borso had one of his own. Another was added via an own goal from Minnesota United FC.
Finally, the Chicago Fire Academy U-16 team took part in the Fifth Annual College Combine at St. Joe’s Super Dome in Michigan where they faced the Michigan Wolves and MLS opponent, Columbus Crew SC.
In the first fixture over the Columbus Crew, the U-16’s fell short as they lost 4-2 after heading into the half tied at 2-2. The goals were scored by Angel Rodriguez and Marco Valencia.
The U-16’s fell short once again in their second fixture against the Wolves to lose their second game of the showcase. A strong comeback effort with goals from Torres-Gale and Viera fell just short when Wolves added the game-winner late in the game for a final score of 3-2.
