Chicago Fire FC Academy Defender Christopher Cupps Called Up to U.S. U-17 Men’s Youth National Team

CHICAGO (Nov. 7, 2024) – Chicago Fire FC and U.S. Soccer today announced that Chicago Fire Academy defender Christopher Cupps has been called up to the U.S. U-17 Men’s Youth National Team for a domestic training camp from Nov. 11-17 in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Cupps, 16, most recently joined U.S. U-17 Head Coach and former Fire player Gonzalo Segares’ squad for the Ježek Cup in the Czech Republic, during which the team faced Germany, Czech Republic and Slovakia. Cupps featured in the 1-0 loss against Germany and the 4-0 win against the Czech Republic, playing the full 90 minutes in both matches.

The young defender is a member of the Chicago Fire Academy at the U-18 level and also featured consistently for Chicago Fire II during the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro regular season. For the Fire U-18 squad, Cupps scored a goal to help lead the team to a 2-0 win against Michigan Jaguars on Saturday, Nov. 2.

He also started 10 of 15 matches played for Fire II, logging 975 minutes during the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro regular season. Cupps made his professional debut at home on April 10 in the 5-5 tie against New York Red Bulls II.
