Chicago Fire Academy product and current Indiana University defender Andrew Gutman was named one of three finalists for the 2018 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy, as announced on Friday by United Soccer Coaches.
Gutman joins Denver's Andre Shinyashiki and Kentucky's J.J. Williams as the three finalists for the annual honor given to the top player in collegiate soccer as determined by voting from NCAA Division I soccer coaches.
Gutman has scored 11 goals and added nine assists for Indiana this season en route to a First Team All-American selection, a unanimous selection as Big Ten Defender of the Year and First-Team All-Big Ten honors. Gutman follows in the footsteps of former Indiana teammate and current Chicago Fire homegrown defender Grant Lillard, who was also a finalist for the award last season. Gutman and Lillard are both from Hinsdale, Ill.
Gutman and No. 1-ranked Indiana will take on the No. 15 Maryland Terrapins on Friday, Dec. 7 in the 2018 College Cup national semifinals at Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara, Calif. Kickoff is set for at 9:30 p.m. CT, and will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
