Chicago Fire Academy goalkeeper Damian Las and the U-15 U.S. Boys National Team finished second place in the 2017 CONCACAF Championship, falling 2-0 to Mexico in the tournament final on Saturday, Aug. 19.
Las, a native of Norridge, Ill., helped his side steamroll through the tournament's group stage, allowing just one goal in victories over Canada (2-0), Trinidad and Tobago (6-0, subbed out in first half), and Costa Rica (4-1) in matches played from Aug. 13-16. He then pitched another shutout in the tournament's semifinal, a 3-0 victory over Panama that sent them through to Saturday's final against Mexico.
Las was lauded for a kick save that kept Mexico off the board late in the first half of Saturday's final, but his side were ultimately undone by their Mexican counterparts at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
Las also participated in U.S. U-15 camp in January, and was a USSDA Central Conference Best XI selection at the conclusion of the 2016-17 Academy season.
