As the 2016-17 season came to a close this weekend, the U.S. Soccer Development Academy named its end of the year award winners, including Conference Best XI's, at its pre-Academy Championship kickoff Banquet on Thursday. The Chicago Fire Academy's Damian Las and Indiana Fire Academy's Thomas Warr both collected Central Conference Best XI accolades.
Damian Las (U15/16)
Fire goalkeeper Damian Las, of Norridge, Ill., is an anchor in the defense for a team which finished the season with six total shutouts. This isn't Las' first recognition on the national stage either, as Las has participated in multiple U.S. Youth National Team camps, including trips to Argentina and Croatia.
Thomas Warr (U17/18)
Warr, a Zionsville, Ind. native, had a stellar year up top for the Indiana Fire Academy. The forward scored 22 goals in 19 games for the Fire, placing him in the top 10 nationally in the USSDA for goals scored. He continued to shine in the Development Academy playoffs in June, scoring three goals in three games throughout the group stage.
Warr will look to continue his goal-scoring form as he heads off to college next month at Indiana University.
