The Chicago Fire Academy was well represented in the U.S. U-18s 2-1 win over Germany Wednesday in Marbella, Spain.

Center back Mauricio Pineda and Cameron Lindley, were both handed starts, with Pineda opening the scoring in with a 25-yard volley in the 19th minute of play.

Soon-to-be Fire first teamer Collin Fernandez entered the match in the 64th minute before Real Salt Lake Academy product Brooks Lennon took the score to 2-0 in the 76th minute.

Germany got a goal back deep in second half stoppage time when Jonathan Klinsmann, goalkeeper and son of U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, was sent off after receiving a second yellow card which allowed for a German penalty kick.

The kick was converted by Vfb Stuttgart product Osei Owsusu closing the scoring and the match.

Post-match Fernandez met up with former Fire player Arne Friedrich who serves as an assistant coach for the German U-18 side:

The U.S. and Germany will meet in another friendly Friday in Marbella.
