CHICAGO (Aug. 9, 2022) – SeatGeek Stadium will host an international friendly between Chicago Fire FC and Liga MX side Club León on Saturday, September 24. Kickoff for the match is currently scheduled for 5:00 p.m. CT, with gates set to open for fans at 3:00 p.m. CT.
The friendly match between the two teams will be hosted and operated by Latin Entertainment Inc. at SeatGeek Stadium. Tickets to attend the match will be available for purchase on Ticketmaster and TicketsVIP.net. More details will be shared in the coming weeks.
“This match will serve as a great opportunity for us to face a strong opponent and stay sharp during the two-week international break in late September,” said Chicago Fire FC Sporting Director Georg Heitz. “We look forward to facing León in front of our fans as we continue to push toward the MLS Cup Playoffs.”
Competing in the top-flight of Mexican football, Club León has won the Liga MX title eight times, including the Apertura in 2013, the Clausura in 2014, and the Apertura in 2020. Additionally, León became the first club to win the campeonísimo in 1949 after capturing the Liga MX and Copa MX titles in the same season.
The Fire will return to League play on Saturday, Aug. 13 when the team travels to face Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park. Scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. CT, the match will be broadcast live on WGN-TV, CF97 Live and transmitted locally in Spanish on TUDN 1200 AM.
