FRISCO, Texas (Monday, Sept. 15 ) – The Chicago Fire Reserves (5-1-2) defeated FC Dallas Reserves (3-5-0), 2-0, this morning on AdvoCare Field 1 at Toyota Soccer Center. Chicago’s Matt Fondy netted both goals for the visitors. His first goal was scored in the 14th minute on an assist from Patrick Nyarko. Fondy’s second was unassisted in the 36th minute.
The Fire Reserves forced FC Dallas Reserves goalkeeper Chris Seitz to make two saves to start the match. The second chance, which came in the eighth minute, was the product of a creative turn from MLS Rookie of the Year candidate, Harry Shipp. Nyarko was the recipient of Shipp’s pass, but he was marked tightly by FC Dallas Homegrown defender Moises Hernandez and the Ghanaian could only get off a sliding shot that was gobbled up by Seitz.
Chicago’s third chance of the match was setup by Nyarko and finished off by Fondy, in the 14th minute. The pass came from the left side and found Fondy cutting through the heart of the FC Dallas defense unmarked. Fondy’s first touch avoided Seitz, who had charged off his line. His second was a hard, left-footed strike that beat backtracking defender Walter Cabrera to the back of the net, giving the visitors an early, 1-0 advantage.
FC Dallas nearly drew level in the 21st minute, when Hernandez played a quality ball forward to Danny Garcia on the left flank. Garcia went by a defender and delivered a cross in to the feet of forward David Texeira at the top of the box. Texeira turned and played another ball across the ground to Ryan Hollingshead, who beat Fire goalkeeper Kyle Reynish but had the ball smack off the left post and out for an FC Dallas corner kick.
Fire Reserves got a second goal from Fondy in the 36th minute. The goal came via a quick counterattack but Chicago was fortunate to have a pass deflect off a defender and into the space between Seitz and the FC Dallas back line. Fondy was in perfect position to collect the loose ball. He had time to stare down Seitz before finishing hard to the post to the goalkeeper’s left side from 15-yards out.
FC Dallas was reduced to 10 men when Adam Moffat was shown a straight red card for a hard tackle Colin Fernandez in the 57th minute. Despite playing a man down, Dallas maintained an even helping of possession and nearly pulled a goal back just before the final whistle.
Homegrown midfielder Danny Garcia accepted a pass on the right flank and slipped a pass inside to an open Peter Luccin. The Frenchman struck the ball with his first touch but had it sail just beyond the crossbar from 25-yards out.
