CHICAGO (Oct. 22, 2014) – Chicago Fire midfielder Patrick Nyarko suffered a torn Anterior cruciate ligament and a sprained Medial collateral ligament in his right knee in the 81st minute of the Fire’s road match against D.C. United on Oct. 18.
Surgery will be scheduled for a later date once the swelling subsides. The expected recovery time is six to eight months.
“Knowing the work he put in to get back and help us this season, we feel awful for Patrick,” said Chicago Fire Head Coach and Director of Soccer Frank Yallop. “We saw his return to form over the past few weeks and fully support him in his recovery efforts.”
Nyarko finishes 2014 with one goal and three assists in 17 MLS Regular Season appearances after being out earlier this year with a knee sprain. His assist on Harry Shipp’s 67th minute goal Saturday vs. D.C. United was the 35th of his MLS career, pulling him into a tie for fourth with Justin Mapp on the club’s all-time assist list.
His appearance in the game also marked his 200th competitive appearance for the club since 2008, becoming just the ninth player in Fire history to reach the double-century mark.
