If you would have told me DaMarcus Beasley would be going to four World Cups at different times over the last few cycles, I'd have called you a liar.
Through 13 years with the U.S. Men's National Team, Beasley hasn't always made it easy on himself. The former Fire winger had been dropped from the team at different times when his form wasn't necessarily where it should be.
At the same time, when it's mattered most, Beasley has risen to the occaision. It would be hard to forget his early performances for the U.S. at the 2002 World Cup. Or, even after being criticized by Bruce Arena in 2006, Beasley likely being one of the best U.S. players at that tournament. Even his return to the national team to play a smaller role in the side's push into the knockout stage in 2010 was crucial.
This is all by way of saying, when it's mattered most, Beasley has been there. Now the 32-year-old winger who cut his teeth with the Fire early on has become just the third U.S. player to make a final U.S. roster (Claudio Reyna and Kasey Keller being the others).
Reyna (injury in 1994) and Keller (being second choice in 1990, 2002) didn't have the opportunity that DMB will get beginning today vs. Ghana.
