Aston Villa is one of the oldest and most successful clubs in England. In fact, they’ve spent 101 years in the top flight of English football, moer than any other club except Everton FC (who have 109 top-flight seasons under their belt). Villa have won seven league titles in that time, to go along with numerous Cup victories.
While they haven’t won a major title since the 1996 League Cup, the Villans have still typically been one of the better teams in the Premier League since then – in a three year stretch from 2007-08 to 2009-10, they finished in 6th place each season, securing one of the prestigious “European slots” which qualified them for the Europa League.
The past two seasons have seen a slump in form, with a 9th place finish is 2010-11 and a 16th place finish last year. But with new manager Paul Lambert taking over a talented squad – and continuing to add new players through the transfer market – Villa are poised to regain their status as one of the top clubs in the Premier League.
