Looking back to that snowy day in March at the Season Kickoff Luncheon, we put a stake in the ground. On behalf of the Club, Frank said that the team is committed to winning our fifth Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Four months later, the stage is set. Now, we’re just two critical wins away.
During this Open Cup run, luck has been on our side. But more importantly, so has the 12th man. That’s why we’ve committed to hosting each game, streaming all of them live, and even opening our gates for free after an unfortunate round of Chicago weather in June. Now, with the semifinal set for Toyota Park on August 7, we need your help to once again show what home-field advantage really means.

I don’t need to remind you about the Cup and what it means to our Club. But with the competition’s 100th anniversary coming this year, it takes on added significance. While winning the Cup earns us the right to play in the CONCACAF Champions League, the Fire have an even more exclusive opportunity to join Maccabi Los Angeles and Bethlehem Steel as the only five-time winners in tournament history. Even better, we would continue to stand alone as the MLS standard bearer in the competition.
In an effort to make it easier for our fans to fill Toyota Park on August 7, we are offering free parking for all who attend, as well as discounting hot dogs to just two dollars. Beyond that, I encourage you to not only attend on August 7 but bring someone new to the semifinal. Explain to them that the U.S. Open Cup is the oldest, ongoing national soccer competition in the U.S. and one of the oldest in the world. Tell them that if they come out, they’ll watch their hometown team, the true Kings of the Cup, compete on behalf of the best fans in the world.
And last, but not least, be sure to remind them to not make plans for September 24 or October 1.
