On Wednesday, it was revealed that Chicago Fire midfielder/defender Nicolas Hasler was named the 2018 Liechtensteiner Footballer of the Year at a ceremony held at Liechtenstein's TAK Theater.
The occasion marked Hasler's third time winning the award -- given annually by the Liechtensteiner Vaterland, the country's largest daily newspaper -- and his second in a row after winning in 2015 as well as 2017.
Hasler made his senior national team debut for Liechtenstein on Aug. 11, 2010, and has since earned 53 caps. He scored his first international goal against Bosnia-Herzegovina in a 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier on Oct. 11, 2013, and added his second in a friendly against Finland on June 7, 2017.
After wearing the captain's armband in his last match with the national team, Hasler and Liechtenstein will travel to face FYR Macedonia in UEFA Nations League play at the Philip II Arena in Skopje, Macedonia on Oct. 13 at 1:35 p.m. CT. Three days later, Liechtenstein will travel to face Gibraltar at Victoria Stadium in Gibraltar on Oct. 16 at 1:35 p.m. CT.
Join us in congratulating Nico on the honor!
