CHICAGO (Nov. 1, 2017) – Chicago Fire forward Nemanja Nikolic has been called in to the Hungarian National Team for a pair of international friendlies.The MLS Golden Boot winner and Hungary face Luxembourg at Stade Josy Barthel in Luxembourg City on Nov. 9 before hosting Costa Rica at Groupama Arena in Budapest on Nov. 14.
Hungary did not advance to UEFA's second round of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup after finishing Group B play in third place with a 4-5-1 record.
Nikolic made his international debut for Hungary in a 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against the Netherlands on Oct. 11, 2013. He scored his first international goal three days later in a 2-0 qualifying win over Andorra. Nikolic has since scored three goals in 23 appearances for his side.
Nikolic led the league with 24 goals this season. He is among five finalists for the Landon Donovan MLS Most Valuable Player and is one of three finalists for the MLS Newcomer of the Year. The Newcomer of the Year will be announced on Nov. 20 and MVP on Dec. 4.
