Coming out of Chicago Fire FC's 1-0 win over the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday night at Solder Field, a pair of standout showings from midfielder Federico Navarro and defender Carlos Terán were recognized with their respective selections to the Week 17 MLS Team of the Week.
In a Heineken Man of the Match performance, Navarro provided the difference on the scoresheet by finishing off a dazzling setup from Chris Mueller and Boris Sekulić with a driven finish from outside the box in the 68th minute. The goal was Navarro's first of the season, and second of his Fire career. Navarro also excelled in his usual duties in deep-lying midfield, winning possession 19 times on the night - seven more than any other player on the field (according to Opta). Navarro's 19 possessions won are also the second-highest single game total of any player this season, trailing only the 21 recorded by D.C. United's Sofiane Djeffal on March 13.
Terán helped the Fire record the team's seventh clean sheet of the season, a total that trails only New York City FC's eight in the category. Making his second-straight start and eighth appearance of the season overall, the 21-year-old did well in cleaning up threats from the Union attacking unit by recording a game-high eight clearances and adding 11 possessions won of his own.
With wins in two of their last three matches, Navarro, Terán and the Fire are back at it this weekend with a trip west to take on the San Jose Earthquakes this Sunday night, July 3, at 8 p.m. CT. Find coverage on WGN, CF97 Live, Univision Radio, and MLS LIVE's out-of-market package on ESPN+.
