CHICAGO (Jan. 22, 2022) – Chicago Fire FC today announced that defender Miguel Navarro has been called to the Venezuela National Team for two upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying Matches. Navarro is currently with the Fire at preseason training camp in Orlando, Fla., and will join Venezuela on Sunday, Jan. 23.
It is Navarro’s first call up under newly appointed head coach José Pekerman, who was named Venezuela National Team head coach in November 2021. For the first match of the two-game stretch, the Vinotinto will host Bolivia at 4:00 p.m. CT on Friday, Jan. 28, at the Estadio Agustín Tovar in Barinas. The team will then travel to face Uruguay at 5:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Feb. 1, at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.
Venezuela currently has seven points after 14 matches in Conmebol qualifying, posting wins against Chile and Ecuador and tying against Uruguay.
Navarro previously joined Venezuela in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying, appearing in the game-day roster in the 1-0 loss against Paraguay on Oct. 13, 2020. He also made seven appearances (six starts) for the U-20 Venezuela National Team during the South American U-20 Championship in 2019, and was part of the U-20 Venezuela National Team that participated in the 2020 South American Olympic Qualifying tournament.
