CHICAGO (May 29, 2023) – Chicago Fire FC midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday bench for Matchday 15 for his performance in the 3-3 tie against the New England Revolution on Saturday at Gillette Stadium.
The Swiss international wore the captain’s armband for the second time this season and played 90 minutes in Foxborough. Shaqiri’s assist in the 10th minute was his third assist in three consecutive matches, and his fourth assist in the team’s last five games across all competitions.
Shaqiri set up Greek forward Georgios Koutsias with a perfectly-weighted ball behind the Revolution defense. The young forward ran onto the pass, taking a couple of controlling passes toward the goal before placing his shot past the goalkeeper and into the lower left corner.
Chicago heads up North to face Toronto FC at 6:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, May 31 at BMO Field. The match will be broadcast on Apple TV+, streamed in English on wlsam.com, and transmitted locally in Spanish on TUDN 1200 AM.
