Chicago Fire midfielder Micheal Azira got the starting nod for Uganda on Sunday in the second round of qualifying for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
After opening their qualifying campaign with a 0-0 draw against Burkina Faso, Azira and Uganda got their first three points in Group B with a 2-0 win over Malawi. Azira enjoyed a 90 minute shift in midfielder, while Emmanuel Okwi (30') and Fahad Bayo (68') provided the goals to help lift Uganda to the top of the group on four points, level with Burkina Faso.
Uganda resumes their qualifying campaign on Aug. 31, 2020, with a third round Group B matchup against South Sudan.
Azira was previously a member of the Uganda squad that participated in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, in which the team advanced to the Round of 16 with a win against the Democratic Republic of Congo and a tie against Zimbabwe before falling 1-0 to Senegal.
