Mexican National Team to Battle Panama at Home of Chicago Fire

CHICAGO & MEXICO CITY (August 31, 2016) – The Federación Mexicana de Fútbol, Soccer United Marketing and the Chicago Fire announced Wednesday that the annual Mexican National Team U.S. Tour will make its first-ever visit to the home of Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire, Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill., when “El Tricolor” takes on CONCACAF rival Panama on October 11 at 8:30 PM CT. Both teams are expected to bring their top players as the game will be held during an official FIFA fixture window.

The match -- the fifth and final stop of the 2016 Tour -- will be key for both squads as they prepare for November CONCACAF World Cup qualifying contests. Mexico currently sits atop Group A in the fourth round of qualifying with a perfect 4-0-0 record and has already qualified for the fifth and final round, known as The Hexagonal. Panama is in second place of Group B with a record of 2-1-1.


Mexico enjoys an all-time record of 10 wins, four ties and two losses against Panama. The two teams last met on October 13, 2015, in Toluca’s Estadio Nemesio Diez, with the home side winning 1-0 in an international exhibition.
