BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- Fire owner Andrew Hauptman said the acquisitions of Bakary Soumare and Mike Magee combined with the team’s recent results felt “a bit like a new season” when he addressed reporters at halftime of the team’s 2-0 victory over D.C. United Sunday afternoon..
“I think Mike and Baky both bring a lot of leadership,” said Hauptman. “You can just see it, especially Mike barking orders around. I think that’s a positive, both of those guys read the game and see the field in a way that should be helpful.”

Hauptman made his comments prior to Magee’s 85th minute strike – his second in as many games for the Fire.
Though a new infusion of talent appears to be working, the Fire owner remained adamant that he’s charged the club’s technical staff with bringing another quality player once the summer transfer window opens next month.
“The window is coming up and you guys already know that I’ve been asking politely for more additions and hopefully the July window will see some of that.
“There are players -- I see the list that’s being evaluated literally every single day. They’re real and [have] some real quality and hopefully they’ll get something done.”
The Soumare and Magee acquisitions signaled the club’s intent to be aggressive in bringing in players to turn the current 3-7-2 record around.
“I think we have to be [aggressive]. The record is what it is so closing our eyes or crossing our fingers or hoping it gets better next week isn’t really an effective solution.
“The record isn’t as good as the individuals we have on the club. Certainly most writers and experts had their expectations much higher than what they are today.”

With three positive results in the span of a week, Hauptman said he believes there is time to continue a push towards the MLS Cup playoffs.
“I think we’re definitely behind the eight ball. It’s a challenge but we’re not here to stand still, I don’t like losing. I’m competitive and every other part of our life and my business we’re winning and succeeding."
