Lineup Notes | Chicago Fire FC at San Jose Earthquakes

Chicago heads back out West to face the San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday afternoon. Beginning at 7:30 p.m. CT, the match will be broadcast globally on MLS Season Pass and transmitted locally on wlsam.com (English) and WRTO 1200 AM (Spanish).

After receiving a red card in the team’s 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday, Head Coach Frank Klopas will serve a one-game suspension tonight. With Klopas unavailable for the match against San Jose, Paulo Nagamura will serve as head coach.

The Fire take on the Earthquakes following an intense come-from-behind win at home on Wednesday, defeating the Philadelphia Union 4-3 at Soldier Field. Gastón Giménez scored his first goal of the season against the Union, while Maren Haile-Selassie scored his fourth goal in four straight games and Hugo Cuypers scored his first brace of the season.

  • Gastón Giménez returns to the XI for the seventh time this season and dons the captain’s armband for the first time in 2024. Giménez scored his first goal of the season against Philadelphia last Wednesday at Soldier Field.
  • Hugo Cuypers starts his 22nd game of 2024, making him the only player to start every game for the Fire in the 2024. Cuypers leads the team with nine goals, two of which were scored on Wednesday against the Union.
  • Maren Haile-Selassie starts for the 14th time this season. With his goal against Philadelphia, he joined Cuypers as the two Fire players to have scored in four consecutive matches in 2024. Additionally, he became the ninth player in Club history to score in four consecutive matches.
  • Rafael Czichos starts for a third straight game, and 19th overall in 2024. Czichos recorded his second assist of the season against the Union on Wednesday.
  • Chris Brady starts for the 21st time in the 2024 MLS regular season, having missed only one game due to international duty.
  • Kellyn Acosta starts for the 19th time in 2024 for the Men in Red.
  • Wyatt Omsberg starts his second-straight match of the 2024 MLS Regular Season for the Fire.
  • Allan Arigoni starts his 20th match of the season, having started every game in which he has played for the Fire.
  • Arnaud Souquet starts his third straight, and ninth match overall, of the 2023 MLS regular season for the Men in Red.
  • Brian Gutiérrez starts his 18th MLS regular season match of 2024.
  • Chris Mueller returns to the starting lineup for the first time since May 18 against the Columbus Crew. Mueller starts for the ninth time in 2024 for the Fire, and the 40th time overall.
  • Defenders Chase Gasper (leg), Andrew Gutman (leg), Tobias Salquist (leg) and Carlos Terán (leg); and midfielders Xherdan Shaqiri (national team) and Federico Navarro (leg) are unavailable for today’s match.
  • Available off the bench for Coach Klopas are goalkeeper Spencer Richey; defenders Jonathan Dean and Diego Konincks; defender/midfielder Mauricio Pineda; midfielders Javier Casas Jr., Fabian Herbers and Chris Mueller; and forwards Tom Barlow and Georgios Koutsias.
