Chicago resumes MLS regular season play in the Big Apple tonight, looking for the Club’s first win on the road against New York City FC. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. CT, the match will be broadcast globally on MLS Season Pass and transmitted locally on wlsam.com (English) and WRTO 1200 AM (Spanish).
Head Coach Frank Klopas and the Fire are led by forward Hugo Cuypers and winger Maren Haile-Selassie, who are looking to add to their 11 goal contributions each. Last time Chicago took the field in regular season action was on July 20 on the road against Inter Miami CF.
New York is coming off a deep run in Leagues Cup 2024, in which they tied Columbus Crew 1-1 on Saturday, Aug. 17 in the quarterfinals. Eventual finalists Columbus won the ensuing penalty shootout 4-3.
- Frank Klopas has made two changes to the lineup that faced Inter Miami CF on July 20.
- Gastón Giménez makes his 11th start of the season, and 13th start across all competitions in 2024. Giménez wears the captain’s armband for the seventh straight match, including the Fire’s two Leagues Cup 2024 matches against Sporting Kansas City and Deportivo Toluca F.C.
- Chris Brady starts for the 25th time in the 2024 MLS regular season. Brady is currently sixth in MLS with 86 saves this season. His 86 saves are the second-most by a Homegrown goalkeeper behind CF Montréal’s Jonathan Sirois. At 20 yrs, five months, Brady is the youngest goalkeeper in the Top-10 in saves by three years.
- Hugo Cuypers starts his 26th game of the regular season, making him the only player to start every MLS match for the Fire in 2024. Cuypers leads the team with nine goals and two assists.
- Maren Haile-Selassie starts for the 10th straight regular season match, and 13th straight match in all competitions for the Fire. His five goals and six assists tie him with teammate Cuypers for 11 goal contributions in MLS regular season play.
- Brian Gutiérrez starts his 21st match of the regular season, and his 23rd match across all competitions, for the Fire.
- Kellyn Acosta starts his 22nd match of the 2024 MLS regular season, and his 24th match across all competitions for the Men in red.
- Rafael Czichos starts for the seventh straight regular season match, and the 23rd overall match in 2024. Czichos scored his first goal of the season against Inter Miami CF in the Fire’s last regular season match before breaking for Leagues Cup 2024.
- Allan Arigoni makes his 23rd start of the MLS regular season.
- Arnaud Souquet starts his ninth straight match, including Chicago’s two Leagues Cup 2024 matches. Souquet has 15 starts overall across all competitions for the Fire in 2024.
- Carlos Terán returns to the starting lineup after being sidelined with injury on June 29 against the Seattle Sounders.
- Andrew Gutman returns to the Fire’s XI for the first time since the match on May 29 against Orlando City SC.
