Commerce City, Colo. (June 18, 2016) – The Fire’s rookie Homegrown midfielder Joey Calistri tallied the first goal of his professional career in the Fire’s 2-1 road loss to league-leading Colorado Rapids on Saturday evening at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
After a scoreless first half, the hosts got on the board first in the 57th minute when Dillon Powers poked the ball forward to Kevin Doyle, who took a touch into the 18-yard box and snuck his low, right-footed shot under Sean Johnson for the opener.
The Men in Red equalized in the 81st minute when David Accam’s cross found Rodrigo Ramos on the back post. The Brazilian headed it down to Calistri at the penalty spot and the Homegrown rookie got off a quick shot to pull the Fire even. With his strike, Calistri becomes the second Homegrown player in Fire history to score in a MLS match.
