The 103rd edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is in full swing, and the Chicago Fire are closing in on learning their potential opponents upon entering the fold in the tournament's fourth round.
On Wednesday (May 18), 21 Second Round matches will be contested across the country featuring winners from the opening round and 18 USL clubs.
Roughly 12 hours after those matches conclude, U.S. Soccer will hold a draw at 10 a.m. CT Thursday to determine Third Round matchups for Wednesday's winners and nine NASL teams. Thursday's draw also will determine the potential Fourth Round opponents for the 17 U.S.-based MLS teams that will play their first match in the tournament on June 15.
Live results of the draw will be communicated via Twitter. Follow @opencup and @ChicagoFire for results as they occur.
The Chicago Fire are looking to add a fifth U.S. Open Cup trophy to the club's resume after claiming the coveted championship in 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2006. The club owns an all-time U.S. Open Cup record of 39-13-4 with a record-tying 11 semifinal appearances, including each of the last three years.
