Chicago Fire defender Francisco Calvo and the Costa Rica Men's National Team begin their 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup this Sunday, June 16. Here's the rundown on the matchup, plus how you can follow along live at kickoff:
Nicaragua at Costa Rica | Sunday, 7:30 pm CT | FS2, Univision, UDN, FOX Sports GO
With 46 Costa Rica caps under his belt, Calvo will look to make it 47 when Los Ticos take on Nicaragua in their opening match of Group B play. The 26-year-old appeared for his home country twice in their most recent major tournament, last summer's FIFA World Cup, in which Costa Rica did not advance past the group stage.
Despite having qualified for the Gold Cup 14 times, Sunday will mark Costa Rica's first time playing a tournament match on home soil when they take the field at Estadio Nacional for kickoff. Costa Rica have reached the tournament quarterfinals 10 consecutive times, and will be looking to get out of a group that also includes Haiti and Bermuda en route to capturing their first Gold Cup crown.
Costa Rica and Nicaragua have never met in Concacaf Gold Cup play, but Costa Rica owns a 16-1-1 record against Nicaragua all-time.
