As had been mentioned prior to Major League Soccer's World Cup break, Fire defender Gonzalo Segares underwent a successful procedure to remove a bone spur from his right ankle on Tuesday.
The procedure was performed by Dr. Anand Vora of the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute.
Having experienced ankle pain since an injury in the team's 1-1 draw March 16 at Portland, Segares has appeared in just five matches this season.
The veteran Fire left back played through the pain last week, going 90 minutes in the team's matches vs. LA Galaxy (June 1) and Seattle Sounders (June 7).
Segares' appearance vs. Seattle moved him into a tie with Zach Thornton for third on the club's all-time MLS appearance list at 215 games played. He sits behind only assitant coach C.J. Brown (296) and teammate Logan Pause (278).
