Six weeks of preseason training can be a grind.
So it's always helpful to have guys in the team who can keep things light on the training field and in the locker room. Brazilian Designated Player Gilberto has been known to take up that role on occasion, and on Wednesday had some fun with Johan Kappelhof during the Dutch defender's attempt at a postmatch interview:
We have to commend a valiant effort by Kappelhof to keep his composure...
Gilberto was also all smiles for a quick postgame selfie with defender Eric Gehrig at Providence Park:
After scoring goals in back-to-back preseason friendlies vs. MLS opponents, Gilberto was among the players who earned a rest for the Chicago Fire's 4-0 win over Minnesota United FC Wednesday night, which kept the Men In Red unbeaten in five preseason outings. The striker, who recorded five goals and two assists in 10 matches for the Fire last season, is likely to be back in the mix for Chicago's final preseason contest, a Saturday night matchup with host and defending MLS Cup champion Portland Timbers. The match will stream live on Chicago-Fire.com beginning at 7 p.m. CT Saturday.
