On Thursday, former Chicago Fire goalkeeper Jon Busch announced his retirement following a remarkable professional career that spanned 21 years.
In total, Busch made 309 total MLS regular season appearances -- reaching the 300 plateau as a member of the Fire on May 22, 2015 in Columbus -- and an additional 18 MLS Cup Playoff appearances in time spent with Columbus Crew SC, the Fire and the San Jose Earthquakes.
Busch had two separate stints with the Men In Red, first from 2007-09 and then again in 2015. Busch was a key figure in Fire postseason runs in both 2008 and 2009, and was named both MLS Best XI and the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2008 for his efforts.
Busch will formally retire as a member of Crew SC after signing a one-day contract with the club that gave him his start in MLS. He'll be recognized at halftime of Saturday's match when the Fire visit MAPFRE Stadium at 6:30 p.m. CT (ESPN+).
