, 2017) – The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced Tuesday
that midfielder David Accam has joined the Common Goal movement, pledging to donate at least one percent of his salary to high-impact soccer charities. Launched by Manchester United’s Juan Mata, Common Goal is a player-driven initiative designed to change the game for good.
“I’m very excited to join the Common Goal team and am looking forward to using the power of sport to make a positive impact,” said Accam. “This sport has given me so many opportunities, and it’s important for me to give back. At the end of my career, I want people to remember me as much for the impact I had on their lives as they do for my soccer achievements."
Accam is the second Major League Soccer player, joining San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski, and the first Ghanaian player to sign on for the movement.
A graduate of the Right to Dream Academy in Accra, Ghana, Accam returned to his alma mater in 2016 to help unveil the David Accam Community Pitch to benefit the Right to Dream Soccer School in Kumasi. The project was made possible through a partnership between Accam, African oil company Tullow Oil, and the ENAS Hybrid School, which offers students both local and international education. The pitch will be a base for Right to Dream activities, but will also serve as a gathering place for the entire local community to come together and expand their soccer horizons.
