Fire make big jump in weekly MLS Power Rankings

Power Rankings

With a dozen games in the books this season, the Chicago Fire have enjoyed one of the best starts in club history and stand second in the Eastern Conference, third in MLS in total points (21). Consequently, the Men In Red earned another notable promotion in the league's weekly Power Rankings, moving from 10th to fifth thanks to the club's recent three-game winning streak.

Here's how those in the know at MLS have summed up the latest string of performances by the Chicago Fire:

It was a huge week for Chicago, who followed up their big win against Seattle with victories against Colorado and at D.C. to climb all the way up to second in the East. Nemanja Nikolic looks like a true star, and David Accam is having a big impact, too. The Fire look like they're for real.

The Fire have another chance to prove themselves Thursday night, hosting the defending Supporters' Shield winners and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup champions FC Dallas in the latest edition of the Brimstone Cup rivalry. FC Dallas is coming off its first loss of the season but still stands third in this week's MLS Power Rankings

Kickoff on Thursday is 7:30 p.m. at Toyota Park, where the Fire have been beaten only once in their last 22 home outings across all competitions dating to last season. Click here to purchase your tickets today
