CHICAGO (April 2, 2017) – Chicago Fire Homegrown midfielders Collin Fernandez and Djordje Mihailovic have been selected by U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team head coach Tab Ramos to the 25-man roster for the team’s first international training camp of the year. The U-20s will train in London from April 3-10 and take part in several scrimmages while abroad.
Fernandez signed a Homegrown contract on Aug. 28, 2014 and was added to the roster in 2015. A Fire Juniors youth product, Fernandez joined the first Under-14 Academy program at the age of thirteen and has played for the Academy on the U-14, U-16 and U-18 teams. From Downers Grove, Ill., Fernandez is currently on loan to the Fire’s USL affiliate Tulsa Roughnecks and has started both of the Roughneck’s two victories to start the season.
A product of the Chicago Fire Academy, the 18-year-old Mihailovic signed a Homegrown contract with the Fire on Jan. 27, becoming the ninth Homegrown signing in club history. The Lemont, Ill. native made his professional debut when he entered as a late substitute in the Fire’s 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake on March 11.
Joining Fernandez and Mihailovic on the roster is Indiana Fire Academy and Fire PDL product Jeremiah Gutjahr.
