Chicago Fire Travel to Face New England Revolution in Record 12th Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Semifinal

CHICAGO (July 21, 2016) – The Chicago Fire will travel to take on the New England Revolution in their record 12th Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Semifinal at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. on Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. CT.


The Fire advanced to the semifinal round after defeating NASL side Fort Lauderdale Strikers 3-0 at Toyota Park on Wednesday evening. The Revolution advanced after defeating the Philadelphia Union 4-2 in penalty kicks after ending regulation at 1-1.


Since 1998, the Fire have compiled a 41-13-5 record in Open Cup play, including a 28-1-2 record in matches played in the state of Illinois, reaching the semifinal round a record 12 times and the final six times. The Fire previously hoisted the coveted Dewar Trophy four times, in 1998, 2000, 2003 and 2006.


In the second semifinal, the LA Galaxy will host FC Dallas on Wednesday, Aug. 10. The Men in Red were given hosting priority should they advance to their seventh final. Information on the final match will be announced once the field is set.
