BRIDGEVIEW, Ill.(Jan. 27, 2019) – The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced today that it has claimed goalkeeper David Ousted off waivers. Ousted is under contract with the Fire for the 2019 MLS season with a Club option for the 2020 season. He will occupy an international spot on the Fire’s roster.
“We set out to find an experienced goalkeeper to complete our corps,” said Chicago Fire Soccer Club President and General Manager Nelson Rodriguez. “In David we have secured a proven first-choice goalkeeper who retains a hunger to compete. His familiarity with MLS is a bonus.”
Ousted, 33, enters his first campaign with the Fire after spending five seasons (2013-17) with Vancouver Whitecaps FC and one season (2018) with D.C. United, tallying 159 games played (159 starts). Since entering MLS in 2013, Ousted has compiled the third-most shutouts (42) in the league, including an MLS career-high 13 shutouts in the 2014 and 2015 seasons. He has also been named to the MLS All-Star roster twice (2015, 2016) in the last four seasons.
“David’s goalkeeper qualities and his ability to earn shutouts are traits that we were searching for,” said Chicago Fire Soccer Club Head Coach Veljko Paunovic. “We believe that he will use his leadership to improve our defense and our defensive performances.”
Signing his first professional contract with Brondby IF, Ousted played in brief loan spells at lower division sides Nykobing, Falster Alliancen, and Akademisk Boldklub. He then moved to Hellerup IK in the Danish second division, before signing with SonderjyskE Fodbold, then in the second division. He helped them to promotion, then signed for Randers, who were also then in the second division. Ousted helped Randers to promotion to the Danish SuperLiga and featured for the Club in Europa League qualifiers.
Separately, the Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced today that it has waived defender Nicolas Del Grecco.
