Chicago Fire Soccer Club Acquires 2019 MLS SuperDraft Pick from Houston Dynamo in Exchange for Arturo Alvarez

CHICAGO(Dec. 10, 2017) – The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced Sunday that midfielder Arturo Alvarez has been traded to the Houston Dynamo in exchange for their natural second round selection in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft.


“Arturo had perhaps his two best years wearing our red and we appreciate all that he gave to our club,” said Fire general manager Nelson Rodríguez. “We saw this as a chance to allow him to return home while opening up his minutes for some other players.”


Signed on March 3, 2016, the Houston native scored eight goals and tallied 11 assists in 55 regular season matches for the Fire. Alvarez additionally appeared in five Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches.


A Salvadoran international, Alvarez recently made his return to the national team after a two-year absence, earning the start in a 1-0 international friendly win against Canada on Oct. 8, 2017.
