CHICAGO (Nov. 6, 2014) – The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced that midfielder Patrick Nyarko underwent surgery Thursday to repair a torn Anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The surgery was performed by Dr. Michael Terry of Northwestern Medicine. Nyarko, who suffered the injury in the 81st minute of the Fire’s road match against D.C. United on Oct. 18, is expected to miss approximately six to eight months.
The Kumasi, Ghana native finished 2014 with one goal and three assists in 17 MLS Regular Season appearances after being out earlier this year with a knee sprain. His assist on Harry Shipp’s 67th minute goal Oct. 18 was the 35th of his MLS career, pulling him into a tie for fourth with Justin Mapp on the club’s all-time assist list.
Selected in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft, Nyarko has made 200 competitive appearances for the club, becoming just the ninth player in Fire history to reach the double-century mark.
