CHICAGO (March 7, 2017) – The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced Tuesday that midfielder John Goossens will undergo surgery on Friday, March 10 to repair an Osteochondral defect of the talus and deltoid ligament sprain in his right ankle. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Simon Lee at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush.
“John's injury is cruel, particularly given the effort he was making on the play in added time," said Fire general manager Nelson Rodríguez. “We're sure he will work to return to the field this season and find ways to contribute to the team in the interim.”
Goossens, who suffered the injury in second half stoppage time of the Fire’s season opener against Columbus Crew SC on March 4, is expected to miss approximately five to six months.
As a result of the injury, Goossens will be placed on the Disabled List.
