In his first full month on loan with Lansing Ignite FC, Chicago Fire goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland earned USL League One’s Player of the Month honors for June as announced by the league on Thursday.
“It’s an honor,” Cleveland said, via Lansing communications. “Being able to have a great first month under my belt is a great step for me contributing to the team moving forward. There is still half a season to go, but it feels good to get off to a great start and hit the ground running hard.”
Cleveland was sent to Lansing on loan on May 16, and has started 10 matches since. In the month of June, the 25-year-old picked up three clean sheets across six matches, allowing seven goals and in that span. His 33 saves made are the fourth-highest total in the league.
“He has been really important for us, the way he organizes set plays and keeps clean sheets,” Lansing head coach Nate Miller said. “He has done a wonderful job, but its more than just the saves he makes, it’s about his leadership and overall control and demeanor when he is in goal.”
Lansing currently sits in third place in USL League One after 17 matches played. They’ll next take on FC Tucson at Cooley Law School Stadium on Saturday, July 13 at 7 p.m. CT.
