Chicago Fire loanee Elliot Collier scores first goal in Memphis 901 FC history amid emotional weekend

A special moment capped an emotional 24 hours for Chicago Fire forward and current Memphis 90 FC loaneeElliot Collier on Saturday night.

One day after learning of the loss a friend and former teammate in the terrorist attack that has so far claimed 50 lives at the Al Noor Mosque in Collier's native New Zealand, the 24-year-old scored the first goal in Memphis 901 FC history in a 1-1 draw with Loudoun United.

Wearing a black armband to honor the victims of the tragedy, Collier got the goal for the home side in the 78th minute by finishing off a slaloming run inside the Loudoun United 18.

“I knew that today I was going to score for them," he told media postgame.

Collier has been on loan with the USL Championship expansion side since March 7. He summarized Saturday night's goal in his own words on instagram following the match.

Everyone at the Chicago Fire Soccer Club joins in sending its condolences to the victims' families and everyone affected by Thursday's tragedy.
