CHICAGO (March 15, 2024) - Chicago Fire FC today announced that midfielder Sergio Oregel Jr. has been called to the U.S. U-19 Men’s Youth National Team for an upcoming training camp and a pair of international friendlies against England and Morocco.
Oregel Jr., 18, is coming off an appearance with the U-19 U.S. Men’s Youth National Team in the 2023 Pan-American Games. The historic competition took place from Oct. 22-Nov. 4, 2023, at Estadio Sausalito in Viña del Mar, Valparaíso, Chile. This will mark Oregel Jr.’s third call-up with the U-19 USMYNT, after previously participating in an international training camp that took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina from March 20-28, 2023.
At the club level, Oregel Jr. is coming off his second full season with Chicago Fire FC II, the MLS NEXT Pro side of the Club. In his second professional season, Oregel Jr. recorded 24 appearances (17 starts) and scored a career-high three goals and registered two assists.
Before 2023, Oregel Jr. made his Major League Soccer debut on Oct. 9, 2022, in the 1-1 tie against the New England Revolution when he came on as a substitute for another Homegrown Player, Mauricio Pineda. A graduate of the Chicago Fire Academy, Oregel Jr. signed as the 22nd Homegrown in Chicago Fire FC history on October 23, 2021.
