Chicago Fire Fall 2-1 at Real Salt Lake

SANDY, Utah (Aug. 4, 2018) – The Chicago Fire (6-13-5, 23 points) received a memorable second half goal from Bastian Schweinsteiger, but ultimately fell by a 2-1 score on the road against Real Salt Lake (10-9-4, 34 points) Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Damir Kreilach opened scoring for Real Salt Lake with his header in the third minute of first half stoppage time.


The Fire equalized in the 48th minute courtesy of a right-footed blast from distance by Bastian Schweinsteiger. The German midfielder now has four goals to go along with six assists in 2018. 


Kreilach scored his second of the evening in the 75th minute to give the hosts the 2-1 lead.


Second year goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland made his MLS debut on Saturday, tallying eight saves and featuring for the full 90 minutes.


The Fire next travel to face the Philadelphia Union in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinal on Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. CT at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa.
