BRIDGEVIEW, Ill.(April 30, 2016) â Rookie defender Jonathan Campbell scored his first career MLS goal as the Chicago Fire drew 1-1 against D.C. United at Toyota Park on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
Campbell broke through late in the first half thanks to a free kick from Arturo Alvarez. Alvarez whipped in service from the left sideline and Campbell flicked his shot into the net from close range.

D.C. United pulled even midway through the second half. Chris Rolfe provided the cross and Patrick Nyarko had the finish with a header inside the area in the 65th minute.
The Fire pressed for a go-ahead goal, and nearly found it in the 86th minute. Alvarez sent a lengthy pass over the top of D.C. Unitedâs defense and Gilberto timed his run perfectly, breaking free with nothing but the ball and goalkeeper Travis Worra in front of him. Gilberto carried the ball into the box and teed up a left-footed shot, but his effort went just wide of the near post.
Chicago Homegrown Player Collin Fernandez made his 2016 debut and second career MLS appearance during the match, subbing on for Kennedy Igboananike in the 87th minute.
The Men in Red have a bye next week, but will return to action against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place on Wednesday, May 11. Kickoff is 9 p.m. CT on CSN Chicago Plus and 97.5 FM Poder.
