BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (Aug. 28, 2019) – Chicago Fire defender Francisco Calvo has been named to Costa Rica’s national team for an international friendly during the upcoming FIFA window. Calvo will join Costa Rica after the Fire’s away match against Columbus Crew SC on Saturday, Aug. 31, and return prior to Chicago’s home game against FC Dallas on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The 26-year-old defender will join his home country for a friendly against Uruguay on Friday, Sept. 6. Set to begin at 9:00 p.m. CT, the match will take place at the National Stadium of Costa Rica in San José, Costa Rica.
Since making his senior team debut in 2011, Calvo has earned 48 caps for Costa Rica, appearing in tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup and Concacaf Gold Cup. More recently, he made two appearances for Costa Rica in the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup, featuring in a 2-1 win over Haiti on June 24 and a 1-1 draw (6-5 loss on penalties) against Mexico on June 29.
