CHICAGO (April 2, 2014) – The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced Wednesday that the club has acquired allocation money from D.C. United in exchange for forward Chris Rolfe. Per MLS and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“The allocation money that we received in this trade will give us more flexibility and freedom moving forward,” said Fire Head Coach and Director of Soccer Frank Yallop. “It’s always difficult to part ways with someone who has been part of the club for multiple years, but with our existing depth, we felt that this was the right move to make. We thank Chris for his service and wish him all the best in D.C.”
Rolfe began his professional career with the Chicago Fire as a third round selection in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft after a standout collegiate career at the University of Dayton. In eight seasons, Rolfe has appeared in 178 MLS Regular Season matches and has 48 career goals and 22 assists to his credit.
The Kettering, Ohio native returned to the Fire on April 16, 2012 after spending three seasons with Danish Superliga side Aalborg BK where he appeared in 32 matches, tallying six goals.
This season, Rolfe has appeared in two matches, starting one for the Fire.
